Norman Brooks

Norman “Snoopy” Brooks of Clinton, IL passed away peacefully on October 16, 2024, surrounded by his loving wife, children and grandchildren. Norman was born on January 24, 1939, in Glen Dean, KY to Latney and Gressie (Decker) Brooks, formerly of Caneyville, KY. Norman married Helen Edwards on May 13, 1967, in Bloomington, IL.

Celebration of Life will be held on November 3, 2024, at the Heyworth American Legion. A family service will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. The family will then welcome friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Donations may be made in Norman’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, https://act.alz.org

Norman is survived by his wife of 57 years Helen, his daughters Tammy Lancaster and Rebecca (Nathan) Whitted, his sons Dean, David (Sue) and Norman (Roberta) Brooks, his grandchildren Matthew, Megan, Jacob, Abigail, Cassandra, Seth, Celia, Coy, Ricky, Lisa, Mitch, Miranda, Ben and his great-granddaughters Murphy, Dylan and Rae. Also surviving are his sister Betty (Dale) Harvel and his brothers Robert (Nancy) Brooks, Mike (Peggy) Brooks, Tim (Fonda) Brooks and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Reva, Hazel “Mick”, Latney, Gene, Rena, Albert and his granddaughter Mackenzie.

Norman was a free spirit that lived life to its fullest. He never backed down from a challenge and was always willing to take a chance. His adventurous spirit led him to achieve in life what many dreamed of. He was a proud Army Veteran having served as a Paratrooper in the 101 st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, KY and in Korea with the 1 st Calvary Division, 7 th Calvary Regiment (Gary Owen). His willingness to always lend a hand when someone was in need and ability to repair anything mechanical will be missed. We will forever cherish the work ethic that he passed onto his children, the love for his family and the sage advice he shared.

The family would like to extend its gratitude and appreciation to Dewitt County Ambulance, John Warner Hospital and all the OSF physicians and nurses who cared for Norman during his illness. We would especially like to thank Barbara, Alta, Dr. Garcia, Dr. Stivers, Grace, Ashley, Charlie, Addison, Sarah, Mary and Jan for their grace and compassion.
