James Compton

James Ralph Compton, 61, of Mattoon, passed away on March 12, 2026, at his residence.

James was born on November 1, 1964, to James and Ellen (Stofferahn) Compton. He is survived by his two daughters, Samantha Compton of Decatur, IL., Amber Compton of Mattoon, IL., and son-in-law Bryan Shupe of Decatur, IL., five grandsons: Austin and Tyler Hunter, Mason and Zavian Jones and Braxton Compton, one sister Jane (Josh) Dexter of Windsor, IL., and three nieces: Carlie, Casey and Jessica.

James was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Sharon Ann Morris.

James attended Mattoon High School and Lakeland College. He worked at Mattoon Precision as an assembler for several years. James was a dedicated father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his family and spoiling his grandsons. James was especially known for his love of the Chicago Bears and Cubs.

At this time, services are pending and there will be a Celebration of Life at a later date.
