Barbara Ann Hany

Barbara Ann (Allen) Hany, 70, passed away peacefully at her Bloomington home on Tuesday, September 19, 2023. She spent her final weeks surrounded by her loving family.

Barb was born in Bloomington, IL to Robert and Bernadine Allen on February 8, 1953 and was one of seven children. She completed her registered nursing degree in 1995 and spent several years working in a variety of nursing roles. Barb married John Hany (Gridley, IL) in 1999, and his career took them to several states across the Midwest (Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota and Missouri) before settling back in Illinois. She was a talented seamstress and eventually traded in her nursing license to start her own sewing and decorating business. She was gifted with a green thumb, and when she wasn’t sewing, she could be found tending to one of her beautiful gardens. After retiring, Barb and John enjoyed spending their winters together at their home on Fort Myers Beach, FL.

Barb was the mother of Blake Hiltabrand (Wilmette, IL) and Lindsey Hiltabrand (Andrew) Schroeer (Seattle, WA), and was blessed with two stepchildren, Scott (Courtney) Hany (Johnston, IA) and Dr. Lucinda (Dave) Hany (Springfield, IL). She was also the grandmother to seven wonderful grandchildren.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her six siblings: Sue (Rick) Epley, Robert (Laurie) Allen, Christy (Marty) Joseph, Greg (Jenny) Allen, Gayle Morrill, and Deb (Mike) Pierce.

Per Barb’s wishes, no funeral or memorial service will be held. Donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Arrangements are being handled by Central Cremation Center in Forsyth, Illinois.
