Charles Wayne Portwood, a beloved member of the Decatur community, passed away on January 22, 2024, in Decatur, Illinois. He was born in Decatur, on May 14, 1952 and spent his life contributing to the community he loved with his wife Jenny and his dog Bella. Charles is survived by his loving family, including his cherished sister Candy Wells, caring niece, nephew, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jenny Portwood, his parents, Winifred (Joy) and Frank (Bus) Portwood, as well as his son, Joshua Portwood. Charles’s family and friends will remember him as a kind and generous man who touched the lives of many. During his years, Charles worked at Decatur Airport and the VFW Hall, where he made lasting friendships. He was known for his love of music, especially playing the guitar, and his passion for woodworking. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Hospice team at Decatur Memorial Hospital for their compassionate care and support during Charles’s time of need. The family would also like to thank the wonderful and caring staff at the Central Cremation Center for tending to the wishes of Charles Portwood. Charles will be deeply missed by all who knew him and his memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorial contributions be made to Decatur Memorial Hospice. Charles Wayne Portwood will forever be remembered for his kind spirit, love of music, and the positive impact he made on those around him. May he rest in peace.
