Douglas Virgil Anderson, of Cerro Gordo, Illinois, peacefully passed away November 30th, 2022
in his home surrounded by his family.
He was born to Virgil and Evelyn Anderson in East St Louis, Illinois on May 9th, 1943 and was
raised in Decatur, Illinois with his two brothers and sister. He served as a Military Policeman and
in the Canine Division of the Air Force before being honorably discharged in 1963. Following
his military career, he began his 30 year tenure at the Norfolk Southern Railroad as a Road
Foreman of Engineers. He had a passion for all things mechanical and enjoyed restoring
Cushman motorscooters, flying as a hobby pilot, and working with his hands as the ultimate
handyman. In 1964 he met a beautiful nursing student, Susan, and knew from the moment he
saw her she was the love of his life; together they enjoyed 57 joyous years of marriage full of ice
cream dates and travels in their camper.
He is survived by his beloved wife and the loving family they have built together including their
two children and their spouses, multiple grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who were his
pride and joy.
The family will receive friends and loved ones from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM with a service
following on Friday, December 9th, 2022 at Antioch Christian Church 5409 E US 36 Decatur,
Illinois. His interment will follow at a later date at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield,
Illinois.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in his name to the cancer treatment
center that took such great and personable care of him. If desired, donations can be sent to
