Duane Elmer Stout

Duane Elmer Stout, age 72, of Assumption, Illinois, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2026.

Born on August 22, 1953, at St. Vincent’s Memorial Hospital in Taylorville, Illinois, Duane lived a life marked by love, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his family and friends. A true jack of all trades, he was always willing to lend a helping hand and could fix just about anything.

Duane found joy in fishing, spending time with family and friends, watching classic Westerns, and reading novels by James Patterson. Those who knew him will remember his wonderful sense of humor, his loyalty to those he loved, and his ability to make others smile.

He is survived by his sister, Ida Ruth Roberts of Fairbury, Illinois; his niece, Karen Oest (Craig) of Fairbury, Illinois; his great-niece, Emma Oest of Fairbury, Illinois; his daughter, Hope Basford of Springfield, Illinois; his grandchildren, Tyler Basford of Springfield, Illinois, and Kayla Basford (Luke) of Assumption, Illinois; and his great-grandson, Oliver Ray Merrifield.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents, David Elmer Stout and Dorothy Jane Stout (Storm); his brother-in-law, Jerry Roberts; and his beloved wife, Wendy Ransford-Stout.

A celebration of Duane’s life will be held at a later date.

Duane will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives he touched. His kindness, laughter, and steadfast love for his family will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
