Cheryl Ann McInerney, 79, of Decatur, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 29, 2025.

Cheryl was born on October 9, 1946, in Decatur, Illinois, the daughter of Kenneth and Dorothy Guy. She was united in marriage to John McInerney, with whom she shared more than 61 years of marriage. Cheryl dedicated her life to her family as a homemaker and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her loving husband, John McInerney of Decatur, Illinois; her sons, Mike (Debbie) McInerney of Decatur, Illinois, and Mark McInerney of Oreana, Illinois; her brothers, Kenneth (Donna) Guy Jr. and Les (Margaret) Guy, both of Decatur; her sister, Jan Kelly of Decatur; her grandchildren, Amanda (Andrew) Sudduth, Gavin, Chase, and Hayden McInerney; and her great-grandchildren, Grayson and Everett Sudduth.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Cheryl found her greatest joy in caring for and bringing together those she loved. Her home was always open for holidays, birthdays, and everyday gatherings, where she expressed her love through cooking, hosting, and time spent together. One of her most cherished traditions was ending every birthday celebration by singing “May the Dear Lord Bless You,” a reflection of the warmth, faith, and love she shared so freely with her family.

To know Cheryl was to feel loved. She was a devoted wife, a caring sister, and the heart of her family. She gave those she loved a place to gather, a meal to share, and a reminder that no moment together was too small to celebrate. Though she will be deeply missed, her love and traditions will continue to live on in all who were fortunate enough to call her wife, Mom, sister, Grandma, and Great Grandma.

A private service will be held by the family.
