Craig Weldon Deverell went home to be with Jesus on June 26, 2025, at the age of 53. Craig was born on December 19, 1971, in Beech Grove, Indiana. As a teenager, Craig excelled in school and was an avid football and basketball player. His favorite football team is the Dallas Cowboys and enjoyed college basketball (Go Illini!). His love of the game inspired him to go into the field of athletic training. Craig serviced many schools and communities with his services. Craig loved his sports families and would go above and beyond to help where he was needed on the field.

In Craig’s past-time, he enjoyed a good bite on the fishing line. His joy of fishing led him to fishing tournaments and an annual fishing trip to Wisconsin with family. This was a deep passion of his and it showed with his collection of fishing poles and the mountain of tackle he obtained. His other passion was cooking. His love was to make wing sauces and rubs, and BOY, was he good at it! He would carefully smoke meats for family get-togethers and that was his way of showing his love of the grill and family. Craig would grow his own peppers for his recipes and Kraiger’s Dust and Doubtfire were favorites by people near and far. If you followed him on Facebook, he had quite the collection of food photos.

Craig is survived by his children, Austen Deverell and Caitlinn Wilson (Noah), and their mother Teri Deverell, his former wife. He is also survived by his father John Deverell (Evelyn), mother Donna Kwasnik (Peter), brother Matthew Kwasnik (Cynthia), brother Eric McKibben (Becky), sister Sheryl VanDyke (Jeff), his former wife’s family and many cousins, uncles, aunts, nephews and nieces. Along with long time best friend Pete Hoffstetter and many other friends and beloved past and present co-workers (special thank you to Gibson Athletic Training Department).

Craig is preceded by his maternal grandparents Donald and Barbara Cook, paternal grandparents Al and Helen Deverell, brother Randy McKibben, cousin Phillip and nephew Logan.

He had a faith and salvation in Jesus Christ, and we know that he is in Heaven celebrating with his family and beloved pets. he is pain-free and fishing his favorite fishing hole with a little smoked beef brisket on the side.

A memorial service for Craig will be a private family gathering at Passion Community Church on Monday, July 28th at 10:00am. We will honor him and remember the good days.
