Passed away May 5, 2026, at her residence Resident of Stanford Arrangements provided by Central Cremation It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Cynthia “Cindy” Sue Gottschalk Goembel on May 5, 2026.

Cindy was born on May 6, 1964, in Bloomington, Illinois, to Robert Gottschalk and Paula Perschall. She lived her life boldly, leading with love, laughter, and an open heart. Above all else, Cindy’s world revolved around caring for her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and the many people she welcomed into her life along the way.

Throughout her life, Cindy worked many jobs — from delivering newspapers, to teaching school children, to serving her community at local gas stations and bars. No matter where she was, she became known for her warm spirit, contagious laugh, and the way she made people feel seen, valued, and cared for.

Affectionately known to some as “Cindy Lou Who,” she is survived by her sisters, Robin and Peggy, along with their children Ryan, John, Hope, and Clarissa.

She leaves behind her beloved children: Tabitha, Matthew, Savannah, and Mackenzie, who were the center of her world. Cindy was also a devoted grandmother to Marleigh, Raelynn, Caiden, Clyde, Marilyn, and Myla, each of whom she loved deeply and cared for beyond measure.

Cindy shared a special bond with her nieces and nephews, who will miss her dearly. Her kindness, humor, strength, and unwavering love for her family will be remembered always by everyone fortunate enough to know her.
