All of us were shocked to hear of the sudden passing of Dale. We were honored to recognize Dale and several other veterans at "Veteran's Night" at Bicentennial Park just days prior. Despite not having been in the Band for quite some time, it was clear that the Joliet American Legion Band was still extremely meaningful to Dale. In recent years Dale would travel from either Decatur or the Mendota area to attend performances of the band. Dale was happy to join the band at the recent band fundraiser at the Joliet Slammers game on July 6th. As a young member of the band in the late 70s myself, I knew Dale as one of the trombonists who lead the band on parade. It was always a pleasure to reminisce with Dale about our early days in the band. More recently whenever I would see Dale I would ask him what Springfield Mile shirt do you have on today. We all knew Dale had some health challenges, but we certainly didn't expect that this kind-hearted soul would be called home just days after we saw him last. The entire Joliet American Legion Band extends its heartfelt condolences to the Kiesow family! Anchors Aweigh Dale!
