Daniel Corby Dobson (1936 – 2024)

Daniel Dobson, 89, of Riverton, Illinois, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2024, at The Villa’s Senior Care Community in Sherman, Illinois.

Dan was born in Arkansas City, Kansas, and grew up with his older brother, James, sons of Maurelle Dobson and Margaret Corby Dobson. He went to school at Howard College (now Samford University) where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Science.

He married the love of his life in September of 1986 and spent the next 38 years watching their children grow up, doting on his grandchildren, and falling in love with every animal that came into their home. The majority of Dan’s life was spent in construction or maintenance, but he loved the family and life he built the most.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Dobson, children, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, but was known as “Papa” to everyone who knew and loved him. He was a devout Catholic and member of St. James Church in Riverton, Illinois, and a veteran of the United States Navy Reserves. He loved spending time with his family and his dog, Bryant.

Papa Dan was everyone’s cheerleader, had the loudest and most contagious laugh, gave the tightest hugs, and appreciated any time you gave him, which included phone calls, facetime or just a simple card that said I love you! He will always be remembered for his vivid storytelling with unwavering details, and a love and loyalty to God, family, and our country that was unmatched.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Papa Dan’s favorite childhood cancer charity
