Daniel (Danny) Joseph Whalen, age 63, of Clinton, IL., formerly of Bloomington, passed away at Carle Hospital in Urbana, IL on March 11, 2026.

Danny was born November 17, 1962, to Donald and Roberta Whalen. He graduated from Bloomington High School in 1980 and went on to work as a heavy machine operator for many years.

Danny had a deep passion for fabricating and building 4×4 trucks and was well known for his builds. Those who knew him will always remember his big smile and even bigger personality. Danny never met a stranger and had a way of making everyone feel welcome. In the 1990s, he owned the well-known bar, Country Nights in downtown Bloomington, where many friendships and memories were made.

Above all else, Danny loved his wife Sue with all his heart. His love for her was endless and he often reminded his wife his favorite saying, “Life is short and we have lots of stuff to do.” He also had a deep affection for animals, namely his pets: a beloved cat named Smokey, his best friend Charlie the black lab and the Princess Retriever named Holly.

Danny is survived by his loving wife, Sue, her children Shane Nafziger and Samantha (Curtis) Bedwell; his cherished grandchildren, Madison and Grace Harris and Paisley and Hudson Bedwell, his brother Ronnie (Karen) Whalen and his sister Carla Whalen.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Donald and Roberta Whalen and his Brother Ricky Whalen.

Danny will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His laughter, kindness, and larger than life spirit will live on in many of the lives he touched.

A celebration of life will be held at a future date.

Just so heartbreaking!! The larger than life and his smile for miles! I knew Danny from the Country Nights Days and we were such good friends. I stayed in touch with Danny through the years, especially when he was in Tucson and when his Mom " Bert" passed away. Then life started unfolding as destiny tends to do. He moved back to Bloomington and found his true love Sue. He was so happy and in love and that made me happy for them. Danny was a legend in big trucks. He will be deeply missed by all that knew his kind soul!!! So deeply sorry to his beautiful wife and family & furbabies left behind to deal with this great loss! We'll miss you DW
