Darrell Eugene Moran, 80, Decatur IL passed peacefully with his son at his side on March 15, 2026. He was born in Mt Clemens, MI to Wayne and Mary (Martin) Moran on July 7, 1945. His formative years learning were at the only Swayzee in the world attending Swayzee High School. In November 1962 he was introduced via blind date to the love of his life Karen Sue Richardson, and they were married the following year. They spent 56 years together forming a bond via a cord of three with faith that Christ would guide their steps. Darrell strong work ethic and ability to communicate with words of patience and clarity provided him the opportunity to improve his family’s future. Darrell worked for Essex wire and cable for over 35 years as foreman and assistant plant manager at locations in Marion, IN; Pana, IL; and closing out his carrier in Lafayette IN.
Darrell had a heart of sharing and caring for anyone that needed help or direction in life. He led his family with quite words and demonstrated faithfully that thoughtful actions of helping others is what makes life rich. His post-retirement hobbies were varied, and his family took top billing. Whether he was summoned as honey, pop, brother, “Unk”, grandpa, or anyone in need, Darrell gave freely of his time, talent, and loving temperament to help navigate the situation. He followed his Savior with reverence and a knowledge that with Christ all things are possible.
Darrell is survived by one son Rodney (Beth) Moran of Forsyth, IL. Grand children David Kibler (Decatur, IL), Travis (Felicia) Dilley of Pana, IL, Wayne Moran and fiancé Delanie Senesac of Bloomington IL. Great grandchildren Genesis Kibler, Devin and June Dilly. Sister Sherry Reed (Monticello, IN) and one brother Scott Moran (San Tan Valley, AZ and one sister-in-law Donna Uncapher of Marion IN. There is a litany of nieces, nephews, and extended families of Mier Community Church Converse IN, St James Lutheran Church Marion IN, St John’s & St Paul’s Lutheran churches in Decatur, IL.
Darrell was preceded in death by his parents Wayne (1983) and Mary Moran (1988), his loving wife Karen (2019), one daughter Christy Sue Moran (1964), one son Randy Dean Moran (1975). One brother Jim Moran (1985)
Services are as follows with visitation at 10 with memorial funeral services at 11 on Friday March 20 th at St Paul’s Lutheran Church 1 Bachrach Ct, Decatur IL 62526. Grave side ceremony to be held at 1:30 at the Gardens of Memory 11201 S Marion Rd 35 Marion, IN 46952.
In lieu of flowers guests should make donations to their favorite church or rescue entity.
