David H. Barnett, 76, died October 10, 2025, at his home after a long battle with cancer. His wish was to be cremated. Central Cremation Center in Forsyth handled the arrangements.

David was born January 23, 1949, to Harry Dale and Frances May Marie Barnett. He was raised in rural Macon and attended Macon High School. He had three semesters at the University of Illinois. He was drafted in the US Army in 1969.

He married his wife Paula Wright on February 16, 1970. He served in Vietnam from 1970-1971. He returned stateside and worked at Thompson Lumber, Hundman Lumber and RP Lumber as a draftsman & salesman till retirement on June 17, 2017.

He leaves his wife Paula, their 4 children, Chris Barnett of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Allison (Rod) Willis of Decatur, Julie Barnett of Decatur and Derek Barnett of Decatur, as well as his 4 grandchildren.

Services will be held at New Day Community Church, 4191 Greenswitch Road in Decatur, on Tuesday, October 21st. The Honor Guard will do military rites in the parking lot of the church at 10am. Visitation will follow from 10:30-11:30am followed by the funeral service. Lunch will be provided after the service.

David touched the lives of so many he met and he loved his country. His motto was “Faith, family and friends.”
