David (Dave) Leigh Brest of Springfield, IL., passed away on February 16, 2026.

David was born June 23, 1947, in Springfield, IL., the son of Harold Jordan and Grace (Dexheimer) Brest.

David was a highly skilled laborer. He worked for Ironworkers Local Union 46 for over 20 years and made many friends in and out of the workplace.

David was a muscle car owner enthusiast.  Over the course of his younger years, he owned many hot rod cars and was mechanically inclined and worked on each one with skill.  He enjoyed racing them at the track in his past time. He was a do-it-yourself handyman around his house and completed many home improvements.

David was a loving brother, especially to his youngest brother Mark, to whom, he took on a mentoring role. His brother will miss him. In his last years, his daughter is grateful that she was able to be there for him. In the end, there were precious moments shared between them. She will remember those moments and carry them with her.

David was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Ronald Brest. He is survived by his daughter Lisa Busboom; son Michael Alan; grandchildren Craig West, Kyle Seibert, Charlie and Myles Alan, brother Mark A. Brest of Loveland, CO.

Cremation will be provided by Central Cremation Center.
