Dr. James C. Allen, 99, passed away at 7:15 pm on Friday, June 7, 2024, in Forsyth, IL.

Jim was born March 31, 1925 in Champaign, IL, the son of Francis B. and Norine E. (Gillispie) Porter. After Francis was involved in a fatal car accident, Norine married Earnest E. Allen who adopted Jim in 1937. Jim married Mary A. (Cochran) Aubert on October 15, 1977 in Decatur, IL.

During World War II, Jim proudly served his country in the US Navy from June 5, 1943 to March 30, 1946. After his discharge from the Navy, he earned his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Lincoln College of Chiropractic, Indianapolis, IN in 1953. Dr. Allen opened his chiropractic practice in Decatur, IL and served Decatur and the surrounding communities for 62 years. He was a member of the Illinois Chiropractic Society, the American Chiropractic Association, the Valley of Springfield Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite and the Stephen Decatur Lodge No. 979 AF & AM. Jim was a truly kind and generous man leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and unwavering dedication to his family, friends, and patients. He will be truly missed and fondly remembered.

Jim is survived by his wife Mary of Forsyth, his children Pam (Don) Newburg of Mettawa, IL, Mike (Judy) Allen of Decatur, IL, Robin (Mark) Leighton of Forsyth, IL, and Brian (Andrea) Aubert of Decatur, IL, eighteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, son Gary Allen, brother Dr. Harold Allen, sisters Benita Spellman and Doris Earles.

A graveside service with military honors will be held Friday July 12 at 11.00 pm to honor Jim at Mount Zion Township Cemetery, Mount Zion, Illinois. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Alzheimer’s Association, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
