Dwight Edward Swafford, 74 of Decatur, Illinois passed away peacefully on November 7, 2024. Born on August 21, 1950 in Logan, West Virginia. Dwight lived a life rich with love, service, and dedication to his family and community.
Dwight earned his bachelor’s degree in computer science from Eastern University. His career as a drug rehabilitation counselor touched countless lives, showcasing his compassion and commitment to helping others overcome challenges. Prior to this, he served with honor in the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of Sergeant during his seven years of service.
A man of many talents, Dwight enjoyed playing tennis, capturing life’s moments through photography, programming computers and sharing hearty laughter with his loved ones. He was an avid admirer of Edgar Allen Poe, often quoting “All that we see or seen is but a dream within a dream”
Dwight is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Bourne; his sons, Scott Swafford and Sean Swafford; and his grandchildren, Devin Swafford, Tresean Swafford, Miles Swafford, Kenyon Caldwell and great granddaughter Nora Jo Swafford. He is also remembered with affection by his sisters, Dr. Cecelia Harris, Deborah Hughes, Sandy Hughes, Kimberly Hughes, and his brother Corley Hughes. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman Swafford and Athena Bell Culley.
The family will hold a private service, with a memorial service planned for a later date to celebrate Dwight’s remarkable life and legacy
