MT. ZION – Born November 3, 1956, in a small town in Casteldaccia, Sicily to parents Calogero and Fina (Liga) Drago, Francesca immigrated to the United States with her family in 1972.

In June of 1974, she married Matteo, her soulmate. This year they celebrated 51 years of marriage.

Shortly after moving to the United States, she and her family opened a restaurant in Taylorville, Illinois, named La Conca d’Oro. The restaurant became known for offering a “Genuine Touch of Italy” in the heart of Central Illinois.

Locals fondly remember the LaMonica duo and still talk about their unforgettable recipes today. While many recall them best from The Main Hangar Restaurant at the Decatur Airport, Francesca leaves behind a legacy of warmth, hospitality, and love. Her great cooking lives on through her recipes, but what will be remembered most are her heartfelt conversations and the deep love she had for her family, friends, and the customers she welcomed as family throughout her restaurant days.

Francesca’s memory will be cherished by her devoted husband, Matteo LaMonica of Mt. Zion; son John LaMonica (Susan) of Vandalia, Illinois; daughter Stephanie Cooper (Christopher) of Mt. Zion, Illinois; brother Loreto Drago (Jullie) of Sullivan, Illinois; grandchildren Cameron, Isabella and Carleigh; and several cousins. Francesca will reunite with her loving parents, Calogero and Fina, in heaven.

The family extends special thanks to Mt. Zion Health & Rehab and Gentiva Hospice for the exceptional care they provided. A heartfelt thank you to the entire staff of both for treating her and the family as your own. We are forever grateful.

Cremation services are being provided by Central Cremation Center, and a Celebration of Life will be Sunday, October 19, 2025, from 2pm to 5pm at GT Church. Francesca will then be laid to rest with family at Mt. Zion Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations will be made to The Alzheimer’s Association in Francesca’s name.
