Glenn Kirby Jr., aged 84, of Decatur, IL, passed away on Friday, July 12, 2024, at Springfield Memorial Hospital. Born on February 17, 1940, in Paola, KS, he was the beloved son of Glenn Sr. and Virginia (Partridge) Kirby.

Glenn’s academic journey led him to Southern Methodist University (SMU), where he earned both a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts degree in Economics. His passion for education and economics saw him inspiring young minds as a professor at Millikin University in the 1970s. His professional career also included significant contributions at Macon Resources and culminated with his retirement in 2003 from Millward-Brown, where he served as a dedicated surveyor.

Glenn married the love of his life, Barbara Pritts, on March 9, 2002, in Decatur, IL. Barbara survives him, along with his cherished family: his daughter Kay (Gary) of Osprey, FL; his son Brad (Diane) of Decatur, IL; his step-son Rob (Dianna) Miller of Barksdale AFB, LA; and his step-daughter Judy Mashburn of Macon, IL. Glenn’s legacy also includes 3 grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and 4 step-great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to his life.

A devoted fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Glenn found great delight in watching Cardinal baseball games, a pastime he enjoyed throughout his life.

A Celebration of Life service will be held in Glenn’s honor at 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at Second Church of God, located at 2670 E Division Street, Decatur, IL. The family kindly requests that any donations made in Glenn’s memory be directed to Second Church of God at the same address.

Glenn Kirby Jr. will be remembered for his profound impact on education, his unwavering love for his family, and his enduring passion for baseball.
