Jacquelyn (Jac) Carol Hickman passed away peacefully on January 30, 2026, in Charleston, Illinois. Born in Terre Haute, Indiana, Jac lived a life filled with adventure, laughter, and love.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Hickman; her parents, John F. and Helen Whalen; her sisters, Helen Jean Wise and Betty F. (Whalen) Christopher; and her brother, Richard Whalen. Jac is lovingly remembered by her children: son Bob (JR) Hickman and his wife Kris, and daughter Michelle Wolff and her husband Carl.
Jac’s legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: Jacquelyn Mathey and husband Jared, Ashly Curry and husband Chris, Jennifer Hickman, Robert Wolff and wife Shannon, Jaylyn Skinner and husband Adam, and Janelle Pforr and husband Clayton. She also leaves behind great-grandchildren Isla, Thea, Etta, Lucas, Ben, Sebastian, Zoe, Logan, Oakley, Reece and Marley-each of whom brought joy to her heart-as well as several adored grand puppies.
She is also survived by her brother John Whalen Jr. and his wife Eileen.
Jac embraced life with a spirit of adventure that was evident in everything she did-from snow skiing down mountain slopes to perfecting her swing on the golf course. She had a flair for shopping and a gift for bringing people together over luncheons that were always filled with lots of food and laughter. Her zest for life was contagious; she found joy in the everyday moments and created lasting memories with those around her.
Her family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Amy and Taryn Higgs and Tammy Smith for their devoted care over the past years-your compassion made all the difference. Special appreciation also goes to Carolyn Kolling, Pat Chesser, Carolyn Owens, and Brittany Floyd for the monthly lunch dates that brought Jac so much happiness.
In keeping with Jac’s generous spirit and love for animals, the family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Coles County Animal Shelter or through their Amazon wish list.
As Jac once said: “Once I pass, shed a few tears, say a prayer to mourn my death, then get with family and friends to share great stories. Remember I am WALKING in Heaven and watching over you.”
May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.
