James “Chip” Byers of Taylorville (and formerly Stonington) passed away in Danville on January 5, 2025. His arrangements are entrusted to Central Cremation Center.

James was born in Georgia to Howard Delane Byers and Sandra Kay Milliman-Byers. He graduated from Danville High School and went to work in Decatur a machinist at Mueller Company.

James enjoyed fishing, riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, watching a variety of races from dirt track sprint cars to NASCAR and also going to concerts.

Surviving James is his dad Howard of Mattoon, sister Wendy Byers of Surprise, AZ., brother Nicholas Byers of Mattoon, niece Samira Ruiz (Cedric Pridgett) of Surprise, AZ., and nephew Adam Ruiz (Alexandria Ruiz) of Effingham. He also is survived by a great nephew and five great nieces.
