James Lee Uhlrich (Jim) was born in Bar Harbor, Maine on August 7, 1944. At the age of one, Jim moved with his parents, John and Wanda Uhlrich, to Brookfield, Illinois where he and his younger brother grew up. Jim graduated from Riverside-Brookfield High School in 1963. He then received his BA in Accounting from Monmouth College followed by a Masters in Accounting from Northern Illinois University.
Jim moved to Phoenix, Arizona where he worked for Motorola for several years until he grew weary of the summer heat and the high stress. He then moved to the Grand Canyon National Park to work in sales. He was involved in all the community sports activities while there.
In 1995, Jim met LeAnne Austin Bone, daughter of his coworkers at Verkamps. Jim and LeAnne married New Years Eve of 1996.
In October of 1996, Jim accepted the gift of Jesus Christ and became an active member of Grand Canyon Baptist Church. Jim and family moved back to Illinois in 2006, settling in Bethany. He was a substitute teacher and enjoyed participating in community sports. Jim was very involved in Cumberland Presbyterian Church, teaching Sunday School and assisting fellow church members.
As a lifetime Dodgers fan, Jim especially loved watching his team whenever possible. Even as dementia began to take over, he was able to enjoy his Dodgers’ World Series wins in 2024 and 2025.
Jim was received by his Heavenly Father on March 2, 2026. Jim’s legacy is his love for God, life and especially his family. His children and grandchildren were his joy! Jim dearly loved LeAnne and he was a great son-in-law.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents John and Wanda, brother John, infant son Ryan, and father-in-law Glenn Austin.
Jim is survived by his wife of 29+ years, LeAnne; mother-in-law, Carolyn Austin; and Jim and LeAnne’s children: Joel (Carrie) Bone, Danielle Bone, Sean Uhlrich, Meg Uhlrich, Charli (Jonah) Steele, and Madison Uhlrich. As Poppie, he is survived by Kennedy Bone, Rowan Bone, Daniel Bone, and Maeve Steele.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 15th at 3pm at Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Bethany, Illinois.
