James “Clayton” McGlauchlen, age 75, died August 13, 2025, at Memorial Hospital after a short but courageous fight with cancer.

He was born July 29, 1950, in Winchester, IL, to Charles Wesley and Leona Melvina (Grisham) McGlauchlen.

He married his first wife Marilyn (Brown) in 1970. They had a son, Matthew. Then later he married Phyllis (Gaines) in 1978. They had 2 boys, Justin (deceased) and James (Andy).

He is survived by his sons Matt and Andy, two brothers Allen McGlauchlen and Dwight Smothers, several grandchildren, in laws, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, siblings Karen McGlauchlen, Sharon Wintjen, Roger McGlauchlen, Glen McGlauchlen, Bob McGlauchlen, Mike McGlauchlen, Tim McGlauchlen, Jeff Troutner and Pam Millhizer, along with half siblings Iris Hughes, John (J.O.) McGlauchlen, Charles E. McGlauchlen and Sam McGlauchlen

He worked for Shafer Poultry Company, Continental, Roberts Seafood Company as a truck driver with the Teamsters Union. He later retired from Sysco Wholesale Foods in 2016.

He was the “glue” that kept the family together and enjoyed arranging family dinners and reunions for them. He would give you the shirt off his back and a lot of advice whether you wanted it or not! He was a true and loyal friend to many. He loved sitting on his front porch and helping out his beloved neighbors. He was a kind of a master at Solitaire which kept his mind sharp as a tack! He also loved listening to old rock bands like Kansas, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Ozark Mountain Daredevils and New Riders of the Purple Sage.

He will be truly missed by everyone who knew him.

Cremation will be accorded by Central Cremation Center. There will be a small graveside service for family and close friends at Bloomfield Cemetery near Winchester, IL.
