In Loving Memory of Janet Lee Eagler
May 17, 1960-May 6, 2025

Janet L. Eagler, left this earthly plain on the morning of May 6, 2025. She passed away peacefully into the arms of her heavenly Father, with her niece Elisse by her side.

Tuesday, May 17, 1960, was a beautiful day for a more beautiful, delightful baby girl to be born to Leah and Harold Eagler of Maroa, Illinois. They named her Janet.

During her youth, Janet was full of life! She loved sports and excelled in many of them including volleyball, tumbling and softball. She was a cheerleader for four years and also a Homecoming attendant one year. Janet served in many clubs and committees during her high school years.

Janet’s effervescent smile could light up any room! It became a key signature of who she was. She was a life-long christian who attended the Maroa United Methodist Church and had a strong faith in God and a willingness to serve Him inspired many of those around her. She had a network of lifelong childhood friends who she loved so much. The became invaluable to her during her lifetime.

Janet was a proud graduate of Illinois State University and earned a place on the Dean’s List in 1981. She and her family were involved in a serious car accident on Christmas Eve morning during that year. Janet was left with severe and debilitating injuries. They curtailed her academia for almost a year, but she worked hard to earn her degree in Education. Her passion was to teach high school level Home Economics; however, she believes God had other plans for her. With remarkable strength and quiet resilience, Janet began working in daycare, caring for the little ones with warmth, patience and a genuine affection for so many of them.

Janet continued to find joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved the art of cross-stitching and needlepoint, often creating beautiful handmade pieces to give away as gifts to friends, family members and organizations. This art form became a lifelong passion of hers to the delight of all who received them. Another simple pleasure was her beloved dachshund, Harold. He was her faith companion who brought her endless comfort.

Janet is preceded in death by her father Harold, mother Leah and brother Steven. She leaves behind her beloved sister Dawn Nibbelin (Dan), brothers Jeff and Jamie (April) Eagler and a host of nieces and nephews–Kate, Chris, Janzen, Jace, Chloe and Caden Eagler, Elisse and Sophia Nibbelin, Jared DeWalt, great-nephews Christian Morgan, Rowan and Owen Nibbelin-Taylor, JJ DeWalt and great-niece Ayla DeWalt.

A memorial service will be held Friday, May 30th, at 10am, at the Maroa United Methodist Church. It is our hope that all who knew and loved Janet will attend. Memorials may be made in Janet’s honor to the MUMC. We would like to thank the many doctors, nurses, CNAs, specialists and many others who gave Janet superior care in these four facilities–Decatur Memorial Hospital, Springfield Memorial Hospital, St. Charles Speciality Hospital in Missouri and the Mason City Area Nursing Home. The care given made this journey easier to bear for Janet and her family. Our gratitude is profound.
