Jerry “Jake” Lynn Jacobs
January 23, 1964 – October 17, 2025
Jerry Lynn “Jake” Jacobs was born on January 23, 1964, in Decatur, Illinois, to James and
Twilla Jacobs. He passed away peacefully at his home on October 17, 2025, surrounded by
his loving family.
Jake was a cowboy through and through — most often recognized by his cowboy hat and
always ready to lend a helping hand. Over the years, he wore many hats beyond the one on
his head: he was a devoted son, a loyal brother, a proud father, and a deeply loved Papa to
his grandchildren.
He lived life to the fullest, with a spirit as big as the open range he loved. Jake had a passion
for rodeo and spent many years participating in events and supporting the western way of
life. He fulfilled one of his greatest dreams by living and ranching in Nevada, and he
cherished every moment spent there. Back home, you could often find him at Timbuktu
sharing laughter with family and friends, or around a poker table on a Saturday night with
the same close group of buddies who’d been by his side for years. To Jake his friends
weren’t just friends – they were family, no matter your circumstance or where you came
from.
He served his country in the US Navy and was active on the recommissioning of the USS
Missouri that gave him the opportunity to travel the world. He worked for Lowe’s in Forsyth
for 19 years and then spent the last few years working for Kenco and Caterpillar in Decatur.
Jake was preceded in death by his father, Jim Jacobs, and his sister, Karen Herryman. His
memory and spirit lives on within his mother, Twilla Jacobs (Decatur); his brother, Jason
Jacobs (Cerro Gordo, IL). His legacy lives on in his children Katelynn Taylor (Dakota) of
Decatur, IL; Jackson Jacobs of Decatur, IL; Madelynn Jacobs of Decatur, Illinois; Allison
Smith (Adam) of Decatur, IL; as well as his grandchildren Paisley, Waylon, Kayce Jo, Selena,
and Karson who had him completely wrapped around their little fingers. He also leaves
behind countless friends and extended family who will miss his humor, his heart, and his
unmistakable cowboy spirit. Good ride cowboy, good ride.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Jake’s life November 1, 2025 at Timbuk Tu in Mt.
Zion, IL at 4:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Piatt County Trailblazers in Jake’s memory.
Please send donations to 810 Trail Blazer Lane, Monticello, IL 61856.
