John E. Gwinn, 95, of Virden, died on Sunday, August 17, 2025 at his home. He was born May 3, 1930 in Virden, IL, the son of Alfred and Dessie (Eskew) Gwinn. He married Lucille Costa on July 4, 1950.

He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Lucille; two sons, John A. (Rhonda) Gwinn and Don (Cheryl) Gwinn and a daughter, LuAnn Ribley, all of Virden, 10 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Dessie Gwinn, brothers Leroy Gwinn, J. Earl Gwinn and Iven Gwinn, Raymond Gwinn, Carl Ferguson, Del Ferguson, sister Mildred Gwinn Gentry, and son-in-law, Bob Ribley.

He loved fishing, hunting, football, golf and most of all, spending time with his family–his wife, children, grandchildren and greats.

He retired from Pillsbury Mills after 36 years and enjoyed spending his winters in Texas.

A private graveside service will be held at the Virden Cemetery at a later date.
