John Robert Funk, 78, of Decatur, IL, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2025 at 1:20 am at Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Services will be held at Elwin United Methodist church in Decatur, IL on February 1, 2025 from 10am-12pm, with funeral service to follow immediately after.

John was born on April 13, 1947, in Pana, IL, the son of Gene Funk and Donis (Barber) Funk. He married the love of his life, Sherrie (Threlkeld) Funk on November 4, 1967. John worked in banking and real estate for many years. He was a proud member of the Stephen Decatur Masonic Lodge #979, Ansar Shrine, Decatur Shrine Club, and the Scottish Rite of Springfield. He had a passion for helping people, car shows, morning coffee with his best friends, and driving friends and clients to their destinations. John deeply loved his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. He always had a story to share!

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sherrie Funk; daughter Shelly Funk (Robert) of Shelbyville, IL; grandchildren, Cody Burns (Morgan) of Decatur, IL, Lindy Hollgarth (Jessie) of Decatur, IL, and Shelby Hollgarth of Decatur, IL; great grandchildren, JJ, Libby Jo, Brayden, Kyle, Rylen, Ayden, Zander, and Gabriella; siblings, Earleen Hartrich (Dave) of Decatur, IL, Tom Funk (LuAnn) of Pana, IL, and Mary Stopper of Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Donis Funk; daughter, Sandy Burns.
