John L. Duncan, 80, of Decatur, Illinois, died March 25, 2024 at home with his wife and daughters by his side. John was born on October 13, 1943 in Ottawa, Illinois, to the late James and Madolyne Harty Duncan.

He was preceded in death by his brother- Michael Duncan, nephews- James Duncan III and Andrew Duncan of Buena Park, California, as well as sister-in-law – Melanie Camfield, and niece- Amy Camfield of Argenta, Illinois.

John retired from M&M Mars, Inc. after 29 years as a sales representative.

He proudly served in the United States Army from 1965 to 1968 with tours of duty in Korea and Vietnam. He was an Intelligence Specialist with the 52nd Military Intelligence Detachment to the 11th Infantry Brigade, Americal Division. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, and the Korea Service Medal. He held the Expert Badge with Auto Rifle Bar and the Sharpshooter Badge with Pistol and Rifle Bar.

John is survived by his wife of 52 years, Brenda B. Duncan, his brother- James W. (Katherine) Duncan II, daughters- Sarah (Troy Tuttle) Moore, and Mary (Christian) Oliver of Peoria, Illinois, sister-in-law – Carolyn Duncan of Jacksonville, Florida, brother-in-law – Burns (Susan) Bar of Texarkana, Arkansas, granchildren- Brannan (Emma), Madolyne (Rheanna), Jaymee, Mia and AJ, as well as nieces and nephews- Michael Duncan, Claudia Duncan, Catherine Zehner, Nick Zehner, Scott Duncan, Abby (Brent) Minick, Burns A. (Becca) Barr, Brian P. (Amanda) Barr, James Duncan IV, Sierra, Addison, Anna Claire, Jameson, Jack Stanley, Brixton, and Boston. He was followed in passing by his brother in law Jerry Camfield.

The family offers special thanks to Dr. Evelena Ontiveros, Dr. Renata Moore, and all of the wonderful nurses and staff at HSHS St. Mary’s Cancer Care. Also, a special thanks to James and Pino for their kindness and support at HSHS St. Mary’s Hospice.

A funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Decatur, Illinois, with visitation preceding at 10 a.m. A private family burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, Illinois.
