L. Jane Malcolm, 75, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2022 in her home, surrounded by her loving
family.
She was born in 1947 in Brookville, Ohio to Lucille and Charles Cummins.
She met her devoted husband, Randall Malcolm, at Defiance College in Defiance, Ohio. They married in
1968 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She and Randy then moved to Gardiner, Maine and she taught
elementary school in South Gardiner for several years before moving with their family to Decatur,
Illinois. They were blessed with three beautiful daughters, and she was a devoted stay-at-home mother
raising her girls to be independent and strong women. She was dedicated to education and in later years
worked for Richland Community College helping adult students achieve their GED and learn to read. She
was an active member of First United Methodist Church.
Jane was an avid reader and loved gardening and doing the daily crossword puzzles in the local paper.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, daughters Lorie Atteberry (Pat) of Niantic, Illinois, Heather
Minks (Chad) of Black Mountain, North Carolina, and Stacy Benda (Paul) of Decatur, Illinois, and her
loving grandchildren Jake, Hudson, Emmett, Della, and Livy. She was dedicated to her grandchildren and
will always be remembered as their “Grandmom” and “Wawam.”
A private memorial for the family will be held in Maine at a future date.
The family would like to thank Elara Caring Hospice, especially Desiree and Kristi, for their loving care
and support.
Our mom was one of a kind. She had a big heart and loved those closest to her fiercely. Until we see you
again. We love you, Mom.
Central Cremation Center has been entrusted with the arrangements.
