Leo P. Logan, 80, of Lincoln, died at 1:38pm Friday, 12/27/24 at his home surrounded by his loving
family. Leo’s grandfather, Dean Thurman Logan, had also passed on December 27 th , in 1975. He was
born March 30, 1944 in Lincoln, IL to Leo and Loretta O’Neill Logan. He was married to Roberta Heath
on March 24, 1967.
Leo loved his family, his Country, his community, and old cars. He never knew a stranger and never
hesitated to help someone in need, regardless of their ability to repay the deed. Leo and Roberta always
opened their home and their hearts, and were mom and dad as well as paw paw and maw maw to
countless children over the years. Leo was an Army National Guard veteran, serving from 1965 to 1972.
He owned and/or operated full service gas stations and auto repair businesses in the Lincoln community
for nearly 40 years. During that time, he employed many young men and women who became more
family than employee. His ARCO station was one of the last operating on Old Route 66. He served
multiple terms on the Lincoln Community High School board of education and was most proud that he
fought hard for the technical education programs at LCHS, which are still thriving and vital to the
community. He was a proud gold card carrier for lifetime entry into LCHS sporting events and has
attended countless games over the years. Leo was still serving his community as a member of the City of
Lincoln Plan Commission. He loved racing and co-owned the 8 Ball in the 1960’s with his brother Dick.
He loved old cars, owning and restoring many throughout the years. He was proud to say he worked on
every make and model at his repair shop, and estimated that he has rebuilt 1000 engines over his
lifetime, with the last one rebuilt in May 2023. Leo was a die hard Green Bay Packers fan and loved the
St. Louis Cardinals, Fighting Illini, and LCHS Railsplitters.
Leo is survived by his wife of 57 years, Roberta, and their four children; Kathy (Eric) Moore, Kim (Brian)
Dutz, Kevin Logan, and Karen (Shayne Atwood) Carter. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren; Tyler
(Laura) Wolpert, Nicole (Andrew) Potter, Kristina Logan, Chad (Sierra) Wolpert, Cory Moore, Heidi (Chris
Reed) Moore, Kyle (Bailee) Logan, Bennett (Hayden) Graber, Natalie Graber, Piper Graber, Emalie Logan
and six great-grandchildren; Xavier, Avery, Sawyer, Izzy, Charles, Easton. Also surviving are two sisters;
Jane Perry, Ruth (Ed) Hurley, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother Jody, sister Loretta Yeates, brother Richard “Dick”
Logan, stepbrother Robert “Bob” Smith, and stepsister Dorothy Starling.
Instead of a traditional visitation and funeral service, Leo chose to do it his way and attend his own
visitation before he passed. He invited his family and friends to visit with him at his home after he made
the decision to enter home hospice care. In three short weeks, he had 400 visitors come through their
front door, which was a testament to the life he had lived and the impact he had made on those who
were fortunate enough to know him. The family would like to thank Memorial Home Hospice for their
wonderful care.
Memorial donations in Leo’s honor may be made to the KERBYSTRONG Foundation or to
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Central Cremation Center in Forsyth, Illinois has been entrusted with arrangements.
