Leon Jay Woods passed peacefully in his sleep on 4/19/2024, which was also his father-in-law’s birthday. Leon was born in Alton, IL to Donny and Barbara Woods on 4/1/1966, and that would prove to be the best day for him to be born. He was a Huge jokester and loved to laugh. His smile absolutely lit up the room and he could make anyone crack a smile no matter what was going on.

Leon married the love of his life Michelle Lee Woods on 8/7/1999 and their love just continued to grow through the years. Leon’s family and friends meant the world to him, and he has so many that love him just as much.

Leon is survived by his wife, Michelle. His lifelong bestie turned brother, John Goodsell. His 6 children; Adam (Bridget) Woods, Casey Miller, Kevin Woods, Joseph Landes, Kimberly (James) Fox, and Bryan Woods. Four sisters: Melissa (Jim) Story, Linda (Mel) Surratt, Denise (Steve) Looney, and Michelle Woods. Mother-in-law, Arlene Miller, and his brothers and sisters-in-law: Billy (Ronda) Miller, Michael Miller, Chip Miller, Denise (Alan) Perry, Tracy (Chris) Goodsell, and Anita (Johnny) Barnes. So many nieces, nephews and cousins.
If you were to ask him one of his proudest accomplishments were his 8 grandkids that his world literally revolved around. Payton, Raven, Ember and Conner Woods, Xen Woods, Randy Nation, Violet Woods and Spencer Fox.

You could either find this teddy bear out in the backyard woodworking or with one of his 2 besties, John Goodsell or his grandson Randy. Leon and Randy were literally inseparable, 9 times out 10 if you saw one you would see the other nearby.

Leon loved with his WHOLE heart no matter what he had going on, he would always put others happiness first. Which is why as he started to lose more and more people his light shined a little less bright.
He is now reunited with his parents: Donny Woods and Barbara (Jim) Donato. Father-in-law: Alvin Miller Jr. Sister: Patty Woods. Nephew JJ Goodsell. Countless friends and his favorite animals: Storm, Fatboy, Spazzee and Sassee.

A piece of our world is now longer on earth, but he is no longer fighting in pain. A celebration of life is being planned for a future date. The family will release details as soon as we have them. If there is a song that reminds you of Leon or if you have pictures that you would like us to play or use at the celebration of life, please send them to his daughter Kimberly as soon as possible.

“Here on Earth, it feels like everything good is missing since you left and here on Earth, everything’s different there’s an emptiness. I hope you’re dancing in the sky, and I hope you’re singing in the angel’s choir And I hope the angels know what they have I’ll bet it’s so nice up in Heaven since you arrived” –Dancing in the sky- Dani and Lizzy
