Margaret Loraine (Brown) Hawxby, 75, formerly of Bland, Missouri passed away from cancer on August 5, 2023, at the home of her daughters in Champaign. She was born January 26, 1948, in Osceola, Iowa to Leland and Myrtle (Smith) Brown.
She married William Carl Eggers on January 26, 1969, in Des Moines, Iowa. Later, she married Lawrence Hawxby on September 5, 1999, at his home outside of Van Meter, Iowa.
Margaret is survived by her daughters: Susanna (Francisco) Sanchez and Rebekah Eggers of Champaign, and Deborah (James) of Bland, Missouri, and one of her sons: Ezekial (Toni) Eggers of Carlisle, Iowa. She is also survived by her sister Mary Anderson of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, brother Richard (Janet) Brown of Greenfield, Iowa, sister-in-law Jotie Brown of Rochester, Minnesota, 8 grandchildren: Rachelle (Chris) Murray of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Lexi Carpenter of Champaign, Heather (Jorge) Galvan, and Caitlin (Dwayne) Phillips, both of Des Moines, Iowa, Elizabeth and Victoria Eggers, both of Carlisle, Iowa, Dell Shimer of West Plains, Missouri, and Crystal (Patrick) Valencia of Topeka, Kansas, 9 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great- grandchildren on the way.
She is preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, son Hezekiah Eggers, brother Donald Brown, and 2 sons-in-law: Steven Carpenter and Jeffery Weathers.
At the time of her death, Margaret was an enrolled agent with H&R Block. She had many clients who looked for her each year to do her taxes as she had worked for them for over 30 years in both Iowa and Missouri. She had done many other things in her life, such being an over the road truck driver, a farmer, a nanny, and a secretary for the State of Iowa.
Margaret, and she always went by Margaret, loved to sew, and quilt. When she was just out of college, she sewed her entire wardrobe. She loved to work with bees and process the honey. Therefore, she collected bee items, but mostly she collected chicken items, lots of them.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, August 26, 2023, at the Avon Lake Clubhouse, 5701 SE 66th Place, Carlisle, Iowa. There will be visitation at 10 am, with a service at 11 am. A fellowship potluck will be held afterwards.
