Monte Henson of Mt. Zion, Illinois passed away on September 5, 2023 at Springfield Memorial Hospital, Springfield, Illinois.  He was born on October 7th, 1941, in Decatur, Illinois to Robert Henson and Ella (Lowe) Henson.  He was first married to Sandy (Hucka)ba Henson (deceased).

In May 1987, he married Barbara Berry Henson in Mt. Zion, where he grew up and lived his entire life. He is survived by his children Tarra Rynerson (Bill) and her children, Matt, Doug (Amanda), Kelsie; Marla Pickering and her children, Brandi and Cody (deceased); Robbie Henson (Lori) and his children, Dakota (Harley) and Corey; and 13 great grandchildren (2 deceased); and 1 great-great grandchild.

He was stepfather to Ginger Gray; Phil Gray, and his child, Krystopher (Stefanie); Shelby Strum and his child, Addison, and Bill Danbury and his child, Lillian, who he considered all to be his own children.

Monte, also known as Pup or Bill, was an avid fisherman and enjoyed the outdoors each and every day.  He was always volunteering to help his family and friends with any size project, or just tinkering in his own yard.  During his lifetime, he retired from the A.E. Staley Company, and then again from Kelly Construction.  He was devoted to traditional family values and loved dearly as a husband, father and friend.

Monte was the recipient of the Andrew Carnegie Medal of Heroism for Bravery.

The family will be having a Celebration of Life in the coming months.

Arrangements are being handled by Central Cremation Center, Forsyth, IL.
