Morris E. Sutter, 74 of Shumway, IL passed away January 25th, 2026, at his home. Morris was born November 24th, 1951, in Effingham IL and was the son of Henry “Ed” Sutter and Barbara (Haslett) Sutter. There will be no services or celebration of life events per Morris’s wishes.
Morris attended Beecher City Jr/Sr High School. He was drafted into the military and proudly served in the United States Army. He served February 3rd, 1971, to February 3rd, 1973, and was stationed in Da Nang during the Vietnam war. He served as a mechanic during his time in Vietnam. He also had a lifelong career of mechanic, and worked at C & L Motors, Yellow Freight, Bulkmatic, and Penske Trucking over the years.
In his younger years Morris worked for the family garbage business Sutter Sanitation. Morris enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, tinkering in his shed, watching Nascar and Football. In his younger years he helped his friend Ron build a stockcar “#63” and enjoyed spending time at the Macon Speedway races. He spent time in his later years, building his own pulling truck and attending truck and tractor pulls around the area until his health no longer allowed him to do so. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, including throwing back a few cold beers.
Morris is survived by his daughters Nicole (Dennis) Thies of Shumway, IL and Amanda (Grady Jones) Sutter of Shumway, IL. Two grandchildren Bethany Thies and Trevor Thies. His siblings Margaret “Mag” (Joe) Hardiek of Mason, IL. Linda (Craig) Moore of
Shumway, IL. Tracy (Linda Sparks) Sutter of Shumway, IL. Sister-in-law Jeanne Sutter of Shumway, IL. Also, numerous nieces and nephews. Special furry friend Bear “aka” Goob. Former spouse Deborah (Willis) Heckenbach of Shumway IL.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, Ed and Barb Sutter, brother James “Jim” Sutter and brother-in-law Brian Sapp. Special thanks Sarah Bush Hospice, Altamont Medical Center, Effingham VA clinic, and the Care Planning Institute. Thanks to Mag Hardiek and Deb Heckenbach for providing in home care during his time of need.
