Nancie and I were connected by the friendships that developed in our families. She and I were friends from the first grade at Lowell School through graduation from Mattoon High School. My dad ad her dad were childhood neighbors and friends, and our mothers were dear friends as adults in Mattoon. Nancie and I also had sisters three years older that were also good friends. Nancie and I were fortunate enough to have had an opportunity last September to reminisce about those family relationships at Gene and Joan Clark’s home during our class reunion. We were both very grateful for that opportunity. I will always have fond memories of Nancie and her family. They were all among the finest people we ever knew. Nancie was a wonderful person, loved by many and kind to everyone. She will remain in my heart forever as an authentic person with a loving spirit.
