Rex "Sexy Rexy" Ashe, 83 of Decatur, Illinois, passed away on May 29, 2025. Born in Oakley, Illinois, Rex lived a full colorful life marked by hard work, humor, and a deep devotion to his family.
A proud graduate of Stephen Decatur High School, Rex went on to spend his entire career at Decatur Auto Body. Those who knew him best often joked that he'd spend his mornings covered in paint before heading off to the pool hall to spend time with his friends-an unofficial routine that perfectly captured his blend of dedication and charm.
Rex was a man of many passions. He loved fishing and playing pool and never turned down a good game of Gin Rummy. In later years, he developed an unexpected fondness for watching Dr. Pol-a pastime his family loving tolerated more than encouraged.
Above all else, Rex was a family man. He leaves behind a forever fan club. Children: Tina Franklin, Bonnie Ashe, Tricia (Mark) Ashe, Mindy (James) Henderson, and his “Favorite daughter” Zoey.
Grandchildren: Amanda Hall, Christina Reynolds, Kirsten Nichols, Kassie Nichols, John Franklin,
Josh Franklin, Zackery Ashe, Gage Bruce, and Milo Henderson: and 26 Great- Grandchildren whose birthdays he faithfully tracked on his calendar-never missing a single one.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Georgia Ashe; parents James and Nannie Bell; son Robert Rex; and Great-Granddaughter Tisha Robbins.
The family sends a heartfelt gratitude to Melvin Mallernee-Rex “bonus son” for keeping his yard mowed and his belly full during his final years. Your care meant the world to him.
Rex’s legacy is one of kindness and quick wit. He was as ready with a helping hand as he was with a clever comeback. His presence brought warmth and laughter to every room he entered. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and joy to those who remembered him with a smile.
A private family graveside service will be held at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home. In Lieu of flowers, we ask that you please join us for his Celebration of Life, which will be held June 28th, from 4:00pm-8:00pm at Sundown Lounge, 2998 N. 22nd Street Decatur, Illinois.
Come celebrate this great man with a plate of food, a cold drink, and a story or two. Just the way he wanted it.
To “The king of the One-Liners” See you on the other side!
