Cary was born October 4, 1958, in Decatur, Illinois, the son of Ross Arthur and Emma Jean (Roberts) Whitacre. He enjoyed working in his yard and spending time with his family. He married Juli Marie Rora on March 5, 1977.

Cary is survived by his wife Juli, children Rodney L. Whitacre and wife Kim, Tonya J. Whitney and husband Matt, Ryan C. Waite and wife Kayla, Adam S. Whitacre and girlfriend Brittany, and Stephanie M. Whitacre. 24 grandchildren, 8 nieces and nephews, and several great nieces and nephews.

Cary is preceded in death by both parents, brother Ross L. Whitacre, sister M. Jane Prosser, son Cary Matthew Whitacre, son-in-law John T. Walker Jr., and favorite fur baby Tank.

Celebration of Life will be held at from 1-5pm Sunday, August 3, 2025, at the VFW Post 99 Decatur, Illinois.
