I was shocked to find out that my friend Ricki had died. When I lived in Decatur in the mid 1980's and met Ricki in a class at Richland College. He was always so much fun! He was a wonderful and talented hair stylist. I used to color my own hair and he talked me into letting him do it. My first time that he colored my hair, it turned green due to the cheap hair color that I had been using. He told me not to panic that he would be able to make my hair a beautiful color and he did. After that, I never colored my own hair again. He would experiment with my hair and give me a different style - I loved it. Back in those days we would diet together, save enough calories to have a small ice cream Sunday at Foster Freeze (whatever it was called). We would laugh together, He was a good friend and helped me through a heartbreak to become a stronger person. I moved away, but never forgot my friend Ricki. I am so glad I got to visit with him last April when I was in town for a short vacation. I know he was in pain a lot of the time with his back, but the sudden death really surprised me. I will miss my friend Ricki, he had such a big heart and a great sense of humor too.

Such a shock to lose such a dear friend and my hair stylist. He had been to me for 39 yrs! Was a real Dear friend and could always have a nice word to say to me and other people. R.I.P. RICK, OUR DEAR FRIEND, WE LOVE YOU AND WILL REALLY MISS YOU! I do know from talking to you just in Dec.2024 you was suffering from your back pain. So Rick you are resting now and no pain.

As I reflect on Rickey and his impact in this world, I’m reminded of his ability to be a silent advocate and a gateway for opportunity. Rickey would take you under his wing and teach you all the while maintaining his signature tough as nails exterior. He was a friend to so many and would make undisclosed contributions, never wanting the spotlight or credit. Rickey left an undeniable mark on those whose who knew him and his spirit will live on in our hearts.

A friend from California and I saw Ricki last May. A reconnection from the late 80s though I occasionally ran into him at the Beach House where he had a 2nd job. In May We talked about old times, and I wanted him to do another Tarot reading.. Now my chance is gone and I am so glad I saw him in May. What a gentle soul. I am so sorry for the pains he had.

I am still trying to digest this very sad news. Thank you Mike for letting me know. I have known Ricki for over 40 years, he has been my hair stylist since I moved to town in the 1980’s. Although we didn’t socialize together we were friends, and held similar political and social views and enjoyed lively discussions when I would show up for a hair appointment.. He was a gem and will truly be missed. Rest in peace my friend. Christine Becker
