Robert (Bob) R. Thompson, of Girard and formerly Springfield, passed away on July 21, 2022 at the age of 97. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Thompson, as well as 7 siblings.

Robert married Jeanne Bradford on Feb. 14, 1947. She preceded him in death after 71 years of marriage. Together they had 2 children. Barb (Tom) Booker of Glenarm and Tom (Theresa) Thompson of Chatham. They also had 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Robert proudly served in the US Navy during WWII. He was stationed in the South Pacific and Mediterranean Sea.

He worked for Norfolk & Southern Railroad until his retirement.

He and Jeanne moved to Sunset Lake in Girard for a quiet life after retirement.

Private graveside services will be held at Camp Butler where he will be laid to rest.

I was able to meet Bob when I worked at Pleasant hill. I know he missed his wife so much that I'm glad they are finally reunited. My grandpa worked on the railroad and owned property at Sunset Lake. My father was in the navy and retired as a rear admiral, all these things gave us much to talk about. My condolences to his family
