Roberta Signe Holmlund

Roberta Signe Holmlund, age 78, passed away at home on October 15 th , 2026. Roberta “Robin” Rindt was born on December 4 th , 1947 in Maddock, North Dakota. Growing up, she, along with brother John, moved throughout North Dakota with their parents as they taught in schools in Maddock, Egland, Rutland, Jud, and Streeter. Robin attended North Dakota State University and earned a bachelor’s degree in Home Economics in 1969.

On July 5 th , 1969, Robin married Lavern Holmlund. They began their lives together by moving to Chicago, Illinois. Life brought them to Casselton, North Dakota where their first child, Jennifer, was born. In 1976, Robin and Vern moved to Larimore, North Dakota where they had their sons John and twins Paul and David. During her time in Larimore, Robin was very active in various groups including being a member of the Ladies Community Club, the Superintendent of the Sunday School program at the United Methodist Church, played in the Legion band, and substitute taught at the high school. She loved the group of friends she made while living in Larimore and shared many stories of her time doing these various activities.

In 1988, the family moved to Decatur, Illinois. Robin began working at Staley’s, moving to ADM, and working at the University of Illinois before she retired. During this time, Robin also took classes earning an associate’s degree in chemistry from Richland Community College. Robin loved her family, learning, teaching, geology, science, math, music, and amongst everything else, becoming a superfan of the television show Supernatural. You should have heard her tales of how much she loved the main actors in the show.

Robin was a member of the Decatur Municipal Band for a handful of years. She also had many spare “kids” that she loved having around and helping.

Robin is survived by her children Jennifer (James “Mike”) Cooper, John (Kirsten) Holmlund, and David Holmlund; brother John (Leann) Rindt; sister in law Sandra (Doug) Ackerman; and a multitude of extended family. She was a proud grandmother to Gwen (Krissy) Holmlund, Sara (CJ) Holmlund, Eric Holmlund, and Rayna Holmlund, and a great-grandmother to Grayson, Kairi, and Jace.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lavern, her parents; Robert “Bob” and Doris Rindt; brother in laws Duane Holmlund and Richard “Dick” Kleinvachter, along with their spouses Nancy Holmlund and Elizabeth “Liz” Kleinvachter; and her son Paul Holmlund.

A celebration of life gathering will be held in late spring/early summer of 2027.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the North Dakota State University Band.
