Roberta Louise (Lee) Wright, 90, died Thursday, July 18, 2024 at her home in Riverton, surrounded by her family. She was born April 27, 1934 in Terre Haute, Indiana, to James and Butha (Smith) Lee. She married Maron Wright on March 22, 1951, and they enjoyed nearly 71 years of marriage until his death on February 22, 2022.
Roberta worked part-time as a banquet server at various hotels in Springfield, Illinois, but her primary focus was as a homemaker, raising their eight children over a span of 40 years.
She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on July 1, 1953 and was a member of the Springfield East Congregation. She loved attending the meetings, and she set a fine example of attending them regularly – despite the weather or the many aches and pains that came with advancing age. Even during the last few days of her life, her goal was to get better so she could go to the Kingdom Hall. She clung to the Bible’s promise of a resurrection and of living in a restored paradise on earth. It was a true comfort to her.
Roberta loved to bake cookies and muffins and give them to her grandkids and members of her congregation. However, among her family and those who knew her well, she was most famous for her oatmeal cake. It was always a request at family gatherings.
Roberta is survived by her children – 3 sons: Mark (Cathy), Chris (Lisa) and Sam (Dawne) Wright; and 4 daughters: Lesa Murphy, Theresa (Allen) Johnson, Cordelia Miller and Johanna (Daniel) Kiesow; 24 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, son Michael (Tracey) Wright, grandson Benjamin (Jessica) Murphy and son-in-law Harold Murphy.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 3076 Normandy Road, Springfield, Illinois, and on Zoom, with James Price officiating.

My Aunt Bert was amazing. Her door was always open. If you needed to come over she always invited people over. She always helped our family always helped in the care with my mom and dad. They would always go to the store or bring food that was in every day occurrence. We were so grateful for their help she will be dearly missed. What a wonderful day it will be when the resurrection takes place and we will all be reunited as one big, happy family, and have the best family reunion ever. Much love to your entire family. I love you all.

So sorry to hear about Berts passing. She was such a good spiritual sister. Always in a happy mood. She would give me child rearing advice when my kids were little. Cant wait to see her again!
