Samuel “Scott” Ground, formerly of Decatur, IL, passed away on Friday, July 7, 2023, at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, IL. He was born April 6, 1954, in Decatur, IL, to Ted and Constance “Connie” (Wetz) Ground. 

On August 8, 1981, he married Kathryn “Kathy” (Warnick) Ground, now of Warrensburg, IL, in Decatur; she survives. Scott is also survived by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren: daughter, Laura Minton (Warrensburg, IL); son, Robert Ground (Decatur, IL); son, James Ground (Decatur, IL); and daughter, Samantha Peck (Niantic, IL); eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. 

Scott was an avid Cubs fan, always enjoying the games on the radio. He loved creating art out of toothpicks, including transfer house, gazebos, and the Eiffel Tower! He loved playing with his children and grandchildren. Fireworks were also one of his favorite things. Perhaps most of all, Scott had a deep love for all animals. When asked once in a survey to name three things he admired, his response was ‘all animals, Jesus Christ, and myself.’ 

A Memorial Gathering will be held at 4pm on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at Galilee Baptist Church, 3470 N. Christmas Tree Road, Decatur, IL.
