Vernon L. McConnell, 71 of Edinburg, IL passed away at his home on January 7, 2024 surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on June 19, 1952 in Taylorville, IL to Louis McConnell and Peggy Jackson. He married Wanda (McClure) on May 31, 1991, she survives.
He is survived by one daughter, Diana Swinson of Edinburg. Three step daughters, Tammy (Jerry) Felton of Edinburg, Kerri (Larry) Skinner of Taylorville, and Rachael Hill (John Powers III) of Springfield. Two step sons, Jeff (Carrie) Rensman of Mechanicsburg, and Jason McConnell of Pinckneyville. He Is also survived by three brothers, Louis (Patty) McConnell of Rochester, Ralph (Teresa) McConnell of Blue Mound, and Richard McConnell of Taylorville. He was also survived by two brother in laws, Russell (Judy) McClure of Kentucky and Ed (Janet) McClure of Virginia. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kevin Rensman, Cory Skinner, Maddison Miller, Jeremy (Mikayla) Felton, Justin Felton, and Jacob Felton all of Taylorville, Lindsey Hill, and Allison Hill of Springfield, Travis Hill (Aliyah Rogers) of Edinburg, Elizabeth Rensman of Mechanicsburg, Tyler McConnell, and Colin McConnell of Pinkneyville, Dylan McConnell of Taylorville, Khinlee McConnell of Springfield, David (Jessica) of Georgia, Thomas Swinson of Springfield, and Kimmy (Michael) Mollica of Edinburg. Great grandchildren Andrew Koehne of Springfield, Olivia Felton of Taylorville, Leo Miller, Major Miller and Wyonna Miller of Taylorville and a few cousins.
He was proceeded in death by his parents and step mother Lura McConnell, his mother in law Darlene McClure, and four brothers Jerry McConnell, Jackie McConnell, Gerald McConnell, and Norman McConnell, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was an avid Green Bay Packers and St. Louis Cardinals fan. He was always willing to help anyone who needed it. He enjoyed camping, playing cards and spending time with his family. His favorite times were the family gatherings at Jeff’s house.
He will be cremated with a celebration of life in June around his birthday.
Central Cremation Center in Forsyth, IL is handling arrangements.
