Victor Lee Moreland, 77, of Decatur, IL passed away peacefully in his home on February 1. 2023. He was born March 14, 1945 in Chicago, IL. He married Terry Ann Banning on February 8, 1969, spending nearly 54 years together, she survives.
Vic had a dry sense of humor and loved to tease people. He loved what he called “water jokes” – they always took a few seconds before the punchline made sense. He liked tinkering in his workshop, thought duct tape would fix anything, loved reading, and listening to his radio or mp3 player at night.
Vic faithfully attended Crusaders Church and took part in a weekly on-line bible study group until he got too sick to do so; he loved discussing theology with his two best friends, Ed and Steve. He spent 28 years at Rolling Prairie/Illinois Heartland Library System from 1982-2010 as a route driver delivering library related materials to member libraries throughout central Illinois. Most of all he loved his family and was very protective of them. Vic loved the Lord and after almost a uyear ad a half of battling cvancer, he was ready to go “home”. In that year and a half he received excellent care from Dr. Wade (Cancer Care); Dr Yoon (DMH Radiation and Oncologuy); Dr. Crebtree (SIU Medical, Springfield); Memorial Medical Hospital, Springfield; DMH Hospital, Decatur; Wound Center at DMH; and all of their staff members, nurses, technicians, ets.; Hospice nurses, who are all angels; and esecially Dr. Michael Wall, Forsyth, whom Vic considered a friend as well as his doctor for many, many years. the family sends heartfelt thanks to each of you.
Vic is survived by his wife, Terry; daughter, Amy Matlock (Brandon Tulak); son, Matthew Moreland (Becky); grandchildren, Madison Gehrken (Hunter); Riley Matlock; Kailey, Storm, Zoey, Annabelle, and Benji Moreland; great-grandchildren, Kynzlee and Easton Gehrken; brother, Ronb Huber and his son Fernando; brother-in-law, Gary Shoraga (Nicole) and their children, Karl and Kate; niece, Dawn Williams Black and her son Marshaun; nephew, Josh Williams (Lori) and their children, Aveary and Tristan; cousins-in-law and many others too numerous to mention, but NOT forgotten; two very best friends, Ed Hendrickson, and Pastor Steven Durst. He was also “grandpa” to Bre, Cassandra and Chyanne.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Moreland; Mother-in-law, Peggy Jeffrey; two fathers-in-law, Jesse Shoraga and James jeffrey, Sr.; two sisters-in-law, Cindyu Dever and Gladys Huber; and grandson Cameron.
Graveside Committal service for the family will be Friday, February 10th at 10:00am at Macon County Memorial park in Decatru with Pastor Steven Durst officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, February 11th from 9:30am to 10:00am at Crusaders Church in Decatur, with memorial service to follow at 10:00am with Pastor Steven Durst officiating.
